About HI-USA
Hostelling International USA is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization and the United States affiliate of the International Youth Hostel Federation. Our mission is “to help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.”
Organized as American Youth Hostels in 1934, HI-USA now has a network of 75 hostels in the United States and serves over 1 million overnights annually. It is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations.
HI-USA believes that exposure to the wonders and diversity of the world is fundamental to the personal growth of every human being. Knowledge of diverse cultures, traditions, history and geography empowers us as citizens of the world.
Travel promotes personal growth, cultural awareness and self-reliance. Whether in the country or in the city, for a day or a year, traveling simply with the openness to the people and places around us can contribute our understanding of, and respect for cultural and ecological diversity, thereby contributing to a better world for all.

HI-USA fulfills its mission by providing affordable accommodations that enable individuals to travel and by providing educational programming that prepares them to engage in the world around them as active global citizens.
