Irish Youth Hostel Association | HI Northern Ireland
On November 11, 1987 terrorists set off a bomb in the midst of a Remembrance Day Service killing many innocent people. Today on the same site in Enniskillen, Ireland stands a new youth hostel and the William Clinton Centre, as symbols of peace overcoming violence.
The project seeks to reinterpret the sites and artifacts of Ulster’s political and social heritage in a way that encourage openness, trust, growth and cooperation. It is named in honor of President Bill Clinton and his contribution to the peace process in Northern Ireland. The centre includes education and community facilities, and an art gallery and restaurant. The hostel features 70 beds in twin, four and six-bedded rooms, along with meeting rooms and kitchen facilities.
The building design incorporates renewable technology, including solar panel heating and solar water heaters.
