Subsidies are offered to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to participate in school trips to hostels. Disadvantaged youth are thus able to participate in school activities with their friends.
Eligible groups include those with special need participants or children from families on welfare benefits. Some trips are used for life-skills training; others bring young people from different backgrounds to raise understanding and tolerance. For many, it is their first trip away from their hometown. Two hostels in England are especially outfitted to deliver the programming.
